last sunday i went to see a play, titled "wangi jadi saksi", which was directed by u-wei shaari, famous for the movie called "perempuan, isteri dan ...", "jogho" dan "kaki bakar". these movies were considered as work of art, and some of them were recognised internationally. too sad that our local market didn't appreciate his work.
some of you who know me might be wondering why suddenly i'm interested in plays. this is like my 2nd time watching plays only. the first time was some donkey years back, which i can't remember. i think it was 6 years ago. the reason i went to watch it last sunday becoz i got free ticket, from my friend, who are one of the crew in this play. domo arigato, tomoe.
the synopsis
this is the story of hang jebat's final moments, as told through the eyes of his young widow, dang wangi (is that how the lrt stop got its name?), as she confronts those accoutable for her husband's fatality. through flashbacks and flashforward, jebat's confrontations with his comrades and nemesis are revealed as the writer and director provokes his audience by presenting a different interpretation to this historical event.
so, did hang tuah really kill hang jebat? it is interesting the way u-wei look from the perspective of dang wangi, which happened to be there when this incident took place.
strong act by khalid salleh as pateh kerma wijaya. also applause to vanidah for the strong performance as dang wangi. the rest of the actors are ok only. for this play, they have 2 jebat, which will go by alternate. letsay if that day they have 2 shows, then they will take turn to perform. jebat (a) will play in the matinee show and jebat (b) for evening show. the one i saw was sobri anuar. he was quite powderful also.
after seeing the play, now i'm kinda like it oredi. so, maybe i'll go for puteri gunung ledang musical play, but depending whether can get free ticket or not la. if not, then have to wait for next month for another play. it's not that i don't want to pay money to watch, but why pay when you can watch it for free.
