After missing the season 1, I finally managed to catch PGLTM at Istana Budaya, on their very last day of performance. Thanks to RHB for giving me the opportunity to watch this truly wonderful show. I've read the review in some blogs and even the newspaper, and all were saying good things about it, which I totally agreed with. It was a full house on that day. Even the Sultan Pahang was also there to catch the show.
It started with scene from Majapahit, and the song and dance really kick you off. I think all the audiences were really pump-up after the first scene. People were clapping at every scene, throughout this whole play. I myself never experience this kind of jaw-dropping excitement from watching a play before. I watched the movie, but I can tell you this is totally a different experience. The movie was way too slow.
This local production has bring PGLTM to another level. I've heard from some people who watched Grease before, and they said it doesn't come close to what PGLTM offers. I believe that this production should bring PGLTM to other countries, and I bet you that the people there will definitely love it.
The props are world class! The stairs that became cliffs that became walls that became doors that became Gunung Ledang. The expansive white cloth that became the sea that became mist that became the waterfall.
Lightings play a major part as well. From dawn to morning, to afternoon, to evening, and the moon and the stars...everything was magnificent, and brilliant! Even when the suicide scene, they way the lighting change was....brilliant.
What is a good musical play without a good music. The music are so good. The blend of traditional instruments and modern are so perfect, thanks to Roslan Aziz as the musical director.
The cast are world class. Tiara may not have the most beautiful voice of singing, but her perfection of Gusti Puteri makes it more wonderful to watch and listen to her. When she's in love, everyone also fell in love, when she's sad, we all sad, when she's happy, we all happy, that kind of feeling.
Stephen as Hang Tuah can easily make all the girls beg him to take them to bed. Not because of his good looking look, but his wonderful act and voice is one of the reason why they chose him as Hang Tuah. Truly a gifted guy.
Never in my life I would imagine Sultan Melaka would dance and sing. But in this show, Sultan did all that. Same Sultan as in the movie itself, he is truly one unique character. He has the aura for this role. Salute!
The best of the best I have to give it AC Mizal, the former 4U2C frontman. His role as Gusti Adipati was super duper amazing. Exceptional performance by him. He has a strong stage presence with perfect facial expression and gestures that you can never get enough of him.
If they decide to show PGLTM again, I would strongly urge all of you to go and watch it. I would definitely watch it again. Top class show I tell you. Tak menyesal dan tak rugi...
