finally, after almost a year from the day they decided to release the trailer, i managed to catch the premier on monday, 5 dec 2005, at klcc. this event was organised by digi and don't ask me how the hell did i get the invitation since i'm a celcom user. sometimes, it's good to have "crony" in there. the show started at 9pm but i was there since 8 because i want to make sure i have a good seating, since it stated there in the ticket "free seating". kiasu a bit la...
peter, edmund, susan and lucy pevensie
the movie started with a war scene, and how the peter, susan, edmund and lucy pevensie was sent by their mother to professor kirke, in order to save them from the bloody war. during their time there, soon they discovered the wardrobe which led them to narnia. actually, lucy found it first when 4 of them played hide and seek. during lucy's time in narnia, she met mr. tumnus. well, initially this guy wanted to kidnap her and hand it over to the white witch, but changed his mind. lucy manage to go back to professor's house and soon to find out that her siblings were still playing hide and seek.
she told them about her discovery, but usual la, small kid story siapa nak percaya. then later at night she went there again to see mr. tumnus, but this time edmund followed her. edmund was discovered by the witch herself while he was wandering in the cold icy jungle. the witch quite smart la, in a sense giving edmund the food that he likes, turkish delight. later she made edmund to promise her to bring the other 3 of his siblings, and he can have a room full of turkish delight. of course la the witch wanted all 4 of them, because its been foretold that her reign will end when two sons of adam and two daughters of eve sit on the four thrones at the castle of Cair Paravel.
both lucy and edmund came back safely to the real world, and the next day, all four of them are in narnia. lucy brought them to see mr.tumnus only to found out that poor guy has been captured by the witch. then their adventure begin.
they found mr & mrs beaver who kindly enough to bring them to their little house. meanwhile, edmund quietly ran from there and went to witch's castle alone, hoping that he can have more turkish delight. kena con big time la this guy. poor fella. he ended up being held as a hostage by the witch.
meanwhile, at the beaver's house, they have to get out from there and see the great aslan (the lion) . few things happened here and there la on their journey to see this huge lion. finally, they made it and told aslan that they must rescue edmund from the witch, although he so called betrayed them. they finally managed to rescue edmund, but it comes with a great sacrifice. aslan has to give up his life, in trade for edmund's.
then the battle begins. interesting to watch this scene where you can see animals, monsters, half human half animal (i don't know what to call them), pola bear and all sorts of creatures went to battle. the technology (cgi) made it look so real which will amaze you for sure.
i can't tell you the whole thing, nanti kena marah for spoling the movie. but what i'm gonna say here is just purely my opinion of the movie. let me start from the title itself.
the chronicles of narnia - they should show more about narnia. i feel that the story about narnia itself wasn't enough in this movie.
the lion - again, aslan is such an important role in narnia, yet there's not much of his appearance and impact in this movie
the witch - if given more scenes in this movie, i think she can really show the people how bad, how powerful the witch in this movie. too bad she can't show it to us.
the wardrobe - i think 3/4 of the movie were showing about what happened to the pevensie's during the war, and their time at professor's house, and the discovery of the wardrobe. the other 1/4 is about narnia, witch, lion and the war. such a waste.
they should make this into 3-hour movie. it's definitely less than 120 minutes. that's why i feel the movie is a bit too short but they try to put everything in it. do it like LOTR la, 3-hour length of movie, baru can fit a lot of things in it.
my rating, out of 10 (1 being worst, 10 being superb), i can only give this movie 5.5 for all the effort the made for make it look so real.
but then again, this is only my personal point of view. everyone has their own liking. so, feel free to watch the movie and better still, share your view here.
